We recently reviewed the SurferCloud South Korea Seoul UHost Intel Edition Cloud Server, featuring an Intel Xeon Processor (Cascadelake) with 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB SSD storage, 10 Mbps internet port, and a single IPv4 address. Our comprehensive testing spanned several benchmarking tools to gauge its performance, network speed, latency, and media accessibility.

Here’s what we did in our review:

Conclusion

In the Basic Benchmark, we measured I/O speeds and network performance. The average I/O speed was 138.3 MB/s, which falls into the poor category (<200 MB/s). Network speeds varied by location, with upload speeds around 10 Mbps and download speeds ranging from 41.60 Mbps to 52.23 Mbps. Latencies were relatively high, especially for connections outside of Asia, with the best latency recorded at 34.11 ms to Tokyo and the worst at 268.07 ms to Amsterdam.

The Yabs Performance Benchmark provided a deeper dive into disk performance, where mixed read/write speeds were consistent but not overly impressive, with total speeds of 11.35 MB/s for 4k blocks and 134.95 MB/s for 512k blocks. This indicates moderate performance for typical workloads but nothing outstanding.

Our Geekbench 6 Benchmark results showed a solid single-core score of 1150 (good) and a multi-core score of 2073 (standard). These scores suggest the server handles multi-threaded applications reasonably well and performs above average in single-threaded tasks. The UnixBench results also demonstrated strong CPU performance, with an overall score of 1708.4 for tests with 2 parallel copies, indicating good multi-tasking capabilities.

In conclusion, the SurferCloud Intel Edition Cloud Server delivers solid CPU performance and decent network speeds for local connections. However, the storage speed could be a limitation for heavier I/O tasks. It’s a reliable choice for users prioritizing CPU performance over storage speed, particularly for applications within or near South Korea.
