Linode Akamai USA Chicago AMD EPYC™ Premium CPU Instance Test and Review
We recently tested the Linode Akamai USA Chicago server with an AMD EPYC 7713 64-core Processor (Plan: Premium 4 GB). Here’s the setup: 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB SSD, 4 Gbps internet speed, 4 TB data transfer, 1 IPv4, and 1 IPv6 address.
Our review covered several tests: Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark for performance, Global Node Test for network speed across locations, and Global Ping Test for latency. We also checked media access with The Media Unlock Test, connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test, and web performance using PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.

Conclusion
In our Basic Benchmark tests, the server showed impressive I/O speeds, averaging 784.7 MB/s, which is considered good. Upload and download speeds were also strong, with local speeds reaching 4303.64 Mbps for uploads and 12155.35 Mbps for downloads.
The Yabs Performance Bench highlighted the server’s excellent disk speeds, achieving up to 18.97 GB/s in mixed read/write tests. This performance indicates the server can handle demanding data processing tasks efficiently. The Geekbench 6 test recorded a Single Core score of 1191 and a Multi Core score of 1506, reflecting good CPU performance.
UnixBench results reinforced these findings, with a System Benchmarks Index Score of 1599.1. The server excelled in several areas, showcasing its ability to manage complex operations and multitask easily.
