Civo

Civo is a cloud-native service provider that enables companies to host core applications with ease, helping to speed up development, increase productivity, and reduce costs. The company was born from a team with decades of experience in the hosting and data center sector, including CEO Mark Boost, the founder of LCN.com, which grew to become the 5th largest hosting company in the UK before being sold in 2019.

In 2018, while building a cloud platform for LCN.com, the team saw the need for a community-led cloud platform focused purely on Kubernetes. This led to the creation of Civo, and the launch of the world’s first K3s-powered managed Kubernetes service into beta in 2019. The beta was a huge success, with a thriving community of passionate Kubernetes users, from beginners to battle-hardened k8s veterans.

Over the next 18 months, Civo continued to improve and refine its platform, listening to feedback from its community along the way. In early 2021, Civo moved from beta to an early access phase at KubeCon EU, receiving a fantastic reception. Since then, things have moved fast for Civo. Some highlights include raising $840k in seed funding from private investors in April 2021 and launching Civo Academy in August 2021 with over 50 free videos to support grassroots learning and development.

In September 2021, Civo raised $2m in funding with strategic investment from Softbank-backed THG Ingenuity and launched a new German region in Frankfurt. In October 2021, Civo moved to general availability at KubeCon North America. The investment from THG Ingenuity will accelerate Civo’s plans for 2022 and beyond, with new products, data center regions, tools, and features on its roadmap.

Civo’s cloud-native service is powered only by Kubernetes and offers blazing-fast cluster launch times in under 90 seconds. The developer experience is simplified and transparent pricing starts at just $5 a month. Civo provides all of the core components of the control plane for free and charges only for resources used by Kubernetes worker nodes and any additional paid addons like Persistent Volumes or Managed Databases.
