OneQode Guam Latency Optimized High Performance Cloud Server Test and Review

We recently tested the OneQode Guam Latency Optimized High-Performance Cloud Server (Plan: xer.medium). Powered by an Intel Core Processor (Skylake, IBRS), the server features a dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 76 GB of SSD storage, a 1 Gbps internet port, and 10 TB of free traffic.

In our review, we implemented several tests. We used the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark to check performance. We conducted the Global Node Test to evaluate network speeds across different locations and measured latency with the Global Ping Test.

Our review also included the Media Unlock Test to check media accessibility and the CloudFlare Internet Test to examine the connection quality. Additionally, we assessed web performance using PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.

Payments

OneQode operates on a simple pricing model. They offer the same price in every location, so you don’t have to worry about fluctuating costs based on your or your users’ location.

Moreover, OneQode provides a generous amount of data transfer with its services. The first 10 TB of data transfer is free, and the pricing for additional data follows a tiered model. This structure allows you to estimate your monthly data costs easily.

In addition, OneQode offers various storage options. These include image storage for OS images and instance snapshots, volume storage that you can attach to one or more instances, and S3-compatible object storage ideal for large media. Each of these storage options comes with its own pricing.

OneQode also provides IP addresses as part of its services. Each instance comes with one ephemeral IP address. If you need a floating IP address, that’s available for an additional cost.

Now, you might be wondering about the currency and billing cycle. OneQode Cloud pricing is in USD. As for the billing, it’s important to note that OneQode operates on an hourly billing system. This means you’re only billed for the hours your instances are running.

Conclusion

During our tests, the Basic Bench revealed I/O speeds hovering around 105.7 MB/s across multiple runs. While these speeds are adequate, they fall below the ideal mark of 200 MB/s, indicating room for improvement in data handling efficiency. On the networking front, the server exhibited strong upload and download speeds across various global nodes, with slight decreases in performance at farther distances like Amsterdam and notable bottlenecks in Shanghai. Meanwhile, the Yabs performance metrics were more robust, with disk speeds on larger blocks (512k and 1m sizes) reaching over 200 MB/s, pointing to good capacity for handling mixed read/write operations.

The server’s CPU and overall system performance, assessed through Geekbench and UnixBench tests, showed excellent results. The Geekbench 6 scores were commendable, with a single-core score of 1469 and a multi-core score of 2608, indicating good overall processing power. The UnixBench scores further substantiated this by showing high performance in various benchmarking tests, particularly in file copying and pipe throughput, clearly benefiting from running multiple parallel operations.

In conclusion, the OneQode Guam server stands out regarding CPU power and network throughput, which is especially beneficial for applications requiring high-performance computing and efficient data handling. However, there is a notable need for improvements in I/O speeds to maximize the hardware’s potential. Businesses looking for a capable server solution in Asia-Pacific would find this product appealing, provided the I/O performance gap is addressed in future optimizations.
