Linode Akamai Japan Osaka Shared CPU Compute Instance Test and Review

Let’s check out the Linode server in Osaka, Japan. It’s got an AMD EPYC 7713 with 64 cores, but we’ll be looking at a set-up that includes a dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 80 GB of SSD storage, a speedy 4 Gbps internet connection, 4 TB of data transfer, and one IPv4 plus one IPv6 address.

Conclusion

The server maintained a consistent I/O speed of approximately 1.3 GB/s for the basic benchmarks. Looking at network performance, it exhibited fast upload speeds – awe-inspiring results from the Speedtest.net and Tokyo nodes, showing upload speeds above 2000 Mbps and below 10 ms latency, signifying excellent local connectivity. However, connectivity to certain locations in China was considerably slower, highlighting geographical network limitations.

The more intensive Yabs performance tests underscored the server’s strong disk performance, with read/write speeds peaking at 9.35 GB/s and 9.97 GB/s, respectively, for larger block sizes. Moreover, the Geekbench 6 results confirmed that the server has capable processing power with a single-core score of 1220 and a multi-core score of 2178.

UnixBench tests ran in two modes: single and dual-core. In both instances, the server returned high index scores of 1651.8 in the single-core test and 2972.9 in dual-core, indicative of the server’s ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks in parallel.
